Equal I's

Omar & David know each other since college and always shared a deep passion for music.
They played together in various bands during the 80's and 90's, already looking for fusion between different styles and sounds.

With a band called AUM, they released a self-titled album in 1997 and played with bands such as Ozric Tentacles, Red Snapper, Zion Train, Hawkwind, Moonflowers, Back To The Planet, Porcupine Tree in events & venues like Dour Festival, Botanique, L'Ancienne Belgique, VK, Nandrin Festival, ...
The music was a blend of psychedelic rock, dub/reggae, jazz-funk and a mix between live instruments and electronics.

Omar then formed Bong Messages in 99, an electronic duo more orientated towards Dub and Drum'n'Bass.
They released an album and played with legends such as Lee Scratch Perry, Mad Professor, Zion Train @ Vooruit, VK, Dour Festival, ...
Omar also produced tracks and took care of the live-sets for an electro-sax player called Domguè.

In 2000, David followed his path on his own and started producing electronic music and deejaying. He developped his taste for fusion between afro-american (jazz-soul-funk-disco) and electronic sounds, between live electro-acoustic instruments and computer-based sequencers.

He released 4 ep's and an album on Counterpoint Records (UK) as well as tracks and remixes on many different labels [Blue Note, Amalgama (USA), Broadcite (UK), 4Lux (Holland),...]. He also played from Lisbon to Warsaw with artists such as Jazzanova, Gilb'r, Florian Keller, DJ Cam, Philarmonix (Dairmount), Bernard Dobbeleer, Dzihan & Kamien, D'Stephanie, Jake Benhan, K'Bonus in parties and festivals ( Ten Days Off, Les Ardentes, Dirty Dancing, Tijuana, Estado Liquido, Club Geluk, Superfly,...).

Last year, after some warm holidays in Sicily, they decided to join forces again and formed Equal I's.
Behind this name based on the jamaïcan idiom "I and I", there is a project whose aim is to mix different styles of music from the urban ghettos into an accessible sound with social & spiritual conscious lyrics.
